Creative Ways to Decorate Your Mantel This Holiday Season

Looking to make some last minute adjustments to your holiday decorations? Think about focusing on the mantel of your fireplace and making it the centerpiece. And while you are it, instead of slapping up the same, worn-out décor you do every year, why not try something different this season? Here are five different, creative ways to decorate your mantel for the upcoming holiday season that are sure to make your home beautiful all winter long.

Classic and Classy

With white and gold décor, you can dress your mantel up for the holidays in a classy fashion. Sprigs of white berries in gold vases placed on the ends with faux-frosted garland should do the trick. Try lining the mantel with white or gold electric candles of various sizes, to add some depth. And for a splash of color, you can place pine-cones or poinsettias throughout.

Super-Festive

No matter which holiday you celebrate, you can still go all-out when it comes to decorating your mantel. For instance, have the symbol of your holiday be the centerpiece of the mantel. Then, using coordinating colors, spill out the decorations from there. Flashing string lights, or even a pendant lamp hung above, and animated decorations will make the mantel come to life. If you’ve received several holiday cards in the mail, string them up above the mantel – don’t be afraid to use all the space you’re given!

For the Kids

If you have children, then you know how magical this time of the year can be for them. Decorate the mantel as a family, and let your kids decide which decorations they want up this year. Colorful stockings or ornaments can hang from the mantel, along with nutcrackers, figurines and other toys your child may treasure. With whimsical decorations, it is sure to be a holiday mantel that the entire family can enjoy.

Winter Wonderland

For those who don’t want to change their mantel out as soon as the holidays are over, there are ways to decorate your mantel which stay appropriate throughout the duration of the winter. By using primarily silver and frosted-blue decorations, you could coordinate with your holiday theme, as well as the colors associated with wintertime. Much like the classic theme, you can line your mantel with garland. But for a “winter wonderland” feel, sprinkle sprigs of blue and silver faux berries throughout, along with pine-cones. Use silver candles or lanterns to add height to the décor, and voila! You have yourself a mantel that can last you through January.

Country Themed

There’s something to be said for country décor, as it provides your house with a homier and cozier feeling, especially during the wintertime and holiday season. To dress up your mantel in a country style, use burlap to make big bows and sashes that spread across the edge. Faux-animal antlers, bronze statues, and rustic décor pieces all play off the country theme. Fresh garland can be used to connect it all, and electric lanterns will allow warm light to dance off the mantel.
