Eero Saarinen Mid-Century Modern Furniture

Iconic Chairs and Tables

Eero Saarinen designed many of the most iconic furniture pieces of mid-century modernism. Born in Finland and trained as an architect, Saarinen was known as a collaborator. He first entered furniture design working with the Eames on a radical concept of molded fiberglass shells for chairs. Saarinen would adapt this concept to popular designs for side chairs such as the tulip and lounge chairs like the womb chair. He also created the iconic tulip table, perhaps the most iconic piece of furniture from the 20th century. It replaces the legs of a table with a single white stem supporting a top of marble.

  • Womb Chairs, Tulip chairs and Tables

Saarinen is best remembered for his tulip design. The chair is made from a molded fiberglass shell, now available in environmentally safe plastic. The aluminum base allows the seat swivel mobility. A single accent cushion comes in a variety of colors to match either the white or black finish of the chair. Another famous design is the womb chair. Featuring a different molded design, this comfortable lounge chair comes with a matching ottoman. Both pieces are upholstered in fabric and have tube steel legs.
