Inspirational Bedrooms

Which is your favorite room of the house? Mine is the bedroom, this cozy, special retreat which, since ancient times, has represented a reflection of one’s personality and social status. Having been reinvented several times, the bedroom still remains known as that special, therapeutic retreat where we may leave all our worries behind and feel like royalty. Across history, the bedroom has come a long way since its modest beginnings.

Although generally small in size, in antique times the bedroom was also an echo of the preferences and the means of its owners. Even if questionable as far as comfort goes, in ancient Egypt, pharaohs preferred sleeping on gold and ebony, as a recently discovered ancient bed belonging to Tutankhamun shows. The Japanese, for example, only equip their bedrooms with floor mattresses called tatami, instead of beds. In the beginning of the 14th century, bed mattresses started to gain popularity all over Europe. The fanciest ones were stuffed with feathers while the lower class had to sleep on straw-filled bed mattresses.

After the discovery of the coil-system mattress, in 1865, the comfort of bedrooms all over the world began to rise. Nowadays bedroom areas have started to develop into what the really deserved to be: inspirational retreats. From gorgeous outer views to splendid inner set-ups, huge beds and wall-mounted TVs, we do find ourselves in the right era, in matter of comfort and luxury. Despite having once been considered a lack of wealth or social status, natural elements like stone, wood, and green plants have begun to be elegantly re-incorporated into home designs all over the world, nowadays hinting at luxury and comfort.

Luxury, comfort and style seem to be the most common elements in the evolution of bedroom designs. From installing a “humble” fireplace to fitting in a swimming pool, people started to go at great lengths in order to satisfy their ultimate luxury cravings.

In case you too have got the fever and are on the verge of starting to build the perfect retreat within your own home, make sure that you incorporate modern elements into your bedroom design for a stunning and trendy look.
