Get the Look: “Dream House Makeover”

During this year’s lockdown, a night of “Netflix and chill” changed from an occasional lifestyle choice to our dominant national culture. And now that we’re preparing for more time inside this winter, we are quite thrilled to find “Dream Home Makeover” launch this season on the streaming service. The show follows Shea and Syd McGee, interior designers living in Salt Lake City, UT. Together they run Studio McGee, which launched over five years ago. One of their goals as a company is to make great design affordable at every price point; they even run a warehouse sale. OK, now we are hooked.

The second episode of the series, “Manor House Designs,” features a project the duo did for their neighbors Nate and Linley Hutchinson. We absolutely love the style they came up with for the couple’s new home. We also realized that you can recreate much of the project’s look using selections from Four Hands Furniture. This Austin-based brand is one of our favorites.

The Hutchinson’s home is 7900 sq. ft, with a budget in the millions. It features six bedrooms and an incredible five and a half bathrooms. So finding affordable alternatives is amazing. We’ll start off in the breakfast nook, with these adorable chairs.

Because of a mix-up during construction, the couple’s home features a miraculous basement. It’s almost like a second floor with huge ceilings and massive glass doors. Studio McGee had a great for transforming the space into the Hutchinson’s dream hang-out space for their children. The designers separated out different areas with sectionals, game tables, flat screen TVs, and bunk beds. We immediately recognized this great activities table.

The dining room features another amazing layout. Shea McGee recommends at least seven feet of clearance underneath any pendant light, with even more for higher ceilings. Looks like they followed that even for this dining space! These matching cane chairs are an easy match; we love the simple detail of adding arm chairs at the heads of the table. It just seems somehow very romantic to us!

Their sun-drenched living room is everything we’ve ever wanted. We can definitely imagine ourselves watching Netflix on this gorgeous sofa. And those chairs on the side are perfect for guests of the house, either family or friends. We’ve also got a version with a great price.

Their amazing kitchen island features a quartz top with a double waterfall edge. Watching the contractors install it on the show is incredible; the stone comes in two pieces and seem to weigh half a ton. Those stools are super stylish as well, and we have a perfect match.

The bedroom has a beautiful setup near the window that overlooks the neighborhood. Comfy little loveseats like this one add so much dimension to a space. Here’s a perfect example from Four Hands.
