Interior Inspiration from Master Stylists

Iris Apfel

What if you had all the time and money in the world to create your space from the bottom up? The possibilities seem daunting, but after a few moments, you may get the inkling of a few object d’art and antique furniture pieces that you’d love to wake up to every morning.

While no one truly has carte blanche when it comes to creating their ideal interior, there are a select few who’ve been able to create a unique vision within the confining framework of this stuff we call reality. Master stylists with impeccable personal brands have always been inspirational to us at Memoky. We admire interiors dreamed up by eclectic personalities, refined personalities with clearly defined stories they are dying to share. Here are some of our favorites.

Iris Apfel’s Manhattan Apartment

What a difference a refined eye creates. Far from the usual overwhelming clutter of too much and too many, Iris Apfel has created an outpouring of passion. Patterns and art, antique furniture and rugs – all tell the story of Apfel’s honed aesthetic, a reflection of her wisdom and also her humor. Playfulness keeps her Manhattan home joyful. Where some spaces can become noxious when overstuffed, this interior is absolutely inviting.

Margherita Missoni’s Italian Retreat

Interior Inspiration

Margherita Missoni lives in the original Missoni home near Lake Como. It’s a refreshingly non-contrived space, foregoing any over-the-top display of wealth. Missoni fabrics are used on chairs, lamps and throws, but the overall look is relaxed and filled with thrifty finds or commissioned works of art. Interested in creating this look? Mix strong mid-century furniture with vintage and noteworthy accessories. Just don’t forget to inject your own personality – Missoni’s character shines clearly in this interior.

Zandra Rhodes’ London Warehouse

Interior Inspiration

Zandra Rhodes’ heyday may have been in the 70s, but her Bermondsey home is a witty and fresh take on contemporary interiors. The pink-haired British designer and one-time dresser of Freddy Mercury and Bianca Jagger commissioned Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta to design his only UK building. The open plan living space is a riot of pink, purple, orange, and blue. The colors easily splash together because the space is flooded with natural light.

Barnaba Fornasetti’s Milanese Treasure Trove

Interior Inspiration

Barnaba is the son of Piero Fornasetti, the famous Italian designer. He lives in his father’s Milanese home, continuing the family business. This cheeful home is a feast for the eyes; warm toned walls are accented with antique art and distinctive collections accumulated over the years.  Refined taste and living are on full display, an inviting blend of classics and colorful patterns, design, and color from the 20th century.

Tory Burch’s Chic Midtown-Manhattan Apartment

Interior Inspiration

Designer Tory Burch has an elegant apartment across from Central Park. The style skates past preppy east coast style into a fashionably cozy family home. It’s the perfect place for the Burch family, including their three sons. The mix of subdued and elegant fabrics and playful patterns distinguishes this space. Plenty of lamps and books invite engagement, and the windows create a blast of refreshing natural light.
